Our Process
Step One – Registration
Get in touch with our friendly advisers to request the new starter pack which contains all the details you need to guide you through the entire process of obtaining your licence.
Step Two – Application
You’ll need to complete a short medical exam to ensure you are fit to drive, which can be done by your GP. After the medical, simply send the forms from the starter pack to apply for your Provisional Licence.
Step Three – Training
To get your licence, you must pass a Theory Test followed by Practical Training at a local Test Centre. Your first 2-hour lesson will be an assessment drive, where the instructor will evaluate your driving and recommend the number of lessons needed to reach the required standard.
We can arrange your Theory and Hazard Tests for you, or you can visit dft.gov.uk/dsa and follow the links to book them yourself.
C1/7.5t and Cat C/Class 2
LGV driving training for C1/7.5t and Cat C/Class 2 prepares drivers to handle larger vehicles, such as delivery trucks or lorries. C1/7.5t training is for those who want to drive vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tonnes, while Cat C/Class 2 is for larger trucks over 7.5 tonnes. The training includes theory lessons, practical driving, and safety instructions. You’ll learn how to control the vehicle, load and unload goods, and handle different road conditions. Once you pass the tests, you can drive professionally, with job opportunities in transportation.
Car to Class 1 (C+E)
From 15 November 2021 the rules changed on licences. This means car drivers have the option to go straight from car to class one (C+E). LGV driving training for Category C+E (Class 1) allows drivers to operate the largest vehicles, like articulated lorries with trailers. This is the highest level of LGV training, and it's for those who already hold a Cat C licence. The training focuses on handling large vehicles with trailers, including coupling and uncoupling trailers, reversing, and driving in different road conditions. You will also learn about safety and how to handle heavy loads. After passing the test, you'll be qualified to drive the biggest trucks, which can lead to more job opportunities in the transport industry.
C1+E and C+E
LGV driving training for C1+E and C+E allows you to drive vehicles with trailers. This course is for drivers who already hold C1 or C licence. No medical is needed for C1+E, and your Theory and Hazard Pass Certificates from the CAT C course are still valid. In this training, you'll learn how to attach and detach trailers, drive safely with them, and handle reversing and loading. We offer a 5-day complete course or can adjust the lessons to fit your needs over several weeks. If needed, we also provide evening and weekend training to suit your schedule. After passing, you can drive larger vehicles with trailers, expanding your job options. Get more information about your CPC route when you book.
CPC Periodic Training
We offer the required classroom-based training and qualification for all lorry drivers, in compliance with legal regulations. The Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) involves 35 hours of training, which can be scheduled as a block booking over five days or through flexible hours. The flexible option allows drivers to complete their training weekly, monthly, or on weekends, to help them avoid using annual leave or taking time off work. The Driver CPC is valid for five years. So, get qualified and stay qualified.
B+E/Car and Trailer Competence Training
In November 2021, the DVLA updated the licensing laws, allowing all car drivers to legally tow with the B+E entitlement without needing to take a test. Twinway LGV Driver Training now offers competence training for drivers new to towing. This course is designed to help drivers gain the knowledge and skills to tow safely, not just legally. The training includes reverse manoeuvring, the couple/uncouple procedure, and real-world driving practice with an experienced instructor.
Refresher Training/Assessment Drives
We provide flexible refresher training on all our vehicles, tailored to meet your specific needs and requirements. This training is designed to boost your confidence or provide extra practice ahead of a new job, interview, or assessment drive.
Additionally, we can issue an assessment letter outlining your ongoing training and progress.
2 CPC Module-2 Case Studies
The case studies are scenarios or situations you might face as a professional driver in your job. You will go through 7 different case studies, each with 6 to 8 questions. In total, there will be 50 questions, and you will have 90 minutes to finish the test. To pass, you must answer at least 40 questions correctly.
There are five types of case studies:
-
Multiple Choice: Choose your answer from a set of options.
-
Multi Response: Select more than one option from the given choices.
-
Hot Spot: Click on the correct area of an image.
-
Audio: Listen to a clip and choose an answer from the options.
-
Short Text: Type a brief answer using the keyboard.
CPC Module 4 - Practical Demonstration Test
This test takes place at the Twinway LGV Driver Training site, conducted by our in-house DVSA Module-4 examiner. Candidates use our onsite vehicle and use it to answer the examiner’s questions.
You will also need to show your understanding of load securing using a demo trolley.
The practical test checks your knowledge and skills in these areas:
-
Loading the vehicle safely and following proper safety rules
-
Making sure the vehicle and its contents are secure
-
Preventing illegal activity and immigrant trafficking
-
Handling emergency situations
-
Preventing physical risks
-
Performing a vehicle safety check
The test covers five main topics. You need to score at least 15% in each area, with an overall score of 80% to pass. We recommend reading 'A Guide To Driving Large Vehicles' for preparation.
On test day, remember to bring:
-
Both parts of your driving licence
-
Your Module-2 pass certificate
